I loved your interview video. It’s amazing how even educated people have never heard of “Peak Oil”. However, I find that when I ask the question, more people are familiar with the concept, but have not heard that exact expression.

When were the interviews conducted? I bet more and more people will be familiar with “Peak Oil” in the past recent weeks.

Yeah,.. well…, the absence of knowledge about the subject is not limited to big cities. I live in a fairly small town in texas and I routinely ask the same question to educated people and get the same blank stare. I am amazed how many people have no idea what peak oil is. I think it’s a lack of media coverage, everybody has heard of global warming though few around here believe it. Also when I ask “why do you think gas has gone through the roof?” I hear all sorts of reasons, none of them being a global supply problem.

Bravo on your attempt(s) to get this issue into the brains of people. I’ve been watching this train coming down the track for about 40 years, and wondering when it would sink in. Although I’m retired, and live in a small town in MS now, I’ve had an interesting life, including living in a variety of big cities in a variety of countries including the USA.

Here’s the problem with peak oil awareness: There is no solution that includes current and future population and lifestyle growth (6.6billion and counting, and everyone wants a car and HVAC). You know it, I know it, even Kunstler knows it. If the entire population really understands it what do you expect that to lead to? I can guarantee it won’t lead to everyone joining hands and singing “We will overcome”. It will lead to the kind of cutthroat (figuratively and literally ) competition for resources that we are beginning to see now between countries, companies, and individuals.

There’s an old political saw that says: “Never ask a question you don’t know the answer to” . You ( and a few others ) have asked the first question. “What is peak oil?” The followup is obvious - “How do we fix it?” Ans: - We can’t, all we can do is postpone it a couple years and make it somebody else’s problem. That is not an acceptable answer. Oh, there are all kinds of pie in the sky alternatives/scams/silver bb’s, drilling more, etc. but no combination of them that will even come close to what is needed in the next few years. We are out of time.

The best part of a party is the last hour before everyone leaves. I did enjoy your home movies, btw. It was fun, but I have to go now.

What do you think?
